Nairobi-based businesswoman and medical doctor Amakove Wala has disclosed that she has received an unexpected wave of marriage proposals shortly after declaring her intention to contest for the Vihiga Woman Representative seat in the 2027 General Election.
Wala, who formally announced her bid for the Vihiga County Woman Representative position, said the reactions to her political ambitions have gone beyond policy debates and campaign pledges.
Instead, she now finds herself fielding personal advances from admirers following her public declaration.
“My name is Amakove Wala, and I am running for Vihiga County Woman Representative, 2027,” she said in a statement outlining her agenda.
She listed land justice, health and dignity, livelihoods, and education as her core priorities, arguing that when systems work for women, families and communities thrive.
As she prepares to launch her grassroots campaign in Vihiga, Wala said she is focused on building what she described as a credible, ethical, and people-centred movement.
She appealed for early-stage support to facilitate community mobilisation, county logistics and transport, communication materials, and volunteer coordination.
“Any financial, technical, or in-kind support will be greatly appreciated,” she stated, signalling that her campaign structure is already taking shape nearly two years before the 2027 polls.
However, it was her lighter remark that sparked conversation online.
“The number of marriage proposals I have received since my declaration to run for the seat of Woman Rep in Vihiga County is alarming! Should I be flattered or worried?” she posed.
Her comment has triggered mixed reactions, with some social media users congratulating her on the attention, while others questioned whether female aspirants still face gendered responses when stepping into elective politics.
The Vihiga Woman Representative race is expected to attract significant interest ahead of 2027, as aspirants position themselves early in a competitive political environment.
Wala’s entry adds to the growing list of professionals seeking elective office, reflecting a broader trend of technocrats transitioning into county-level politics.
Whether the marriage proposals are symbolic of support, satire, or social commentary, Wala appears determined to keep her focus on policy, organisation, and voter outreach as the 2027 contest begins to take shape.
