Activist Boniface Mwangi has called for swift justice following a court ruling that six officers from the Kenya Wildlife Service have a case to answer over the disappearance of fisherman Brian Odhiambo.

The ruling was delivered at the Nakuru Law Courts, where Mwangi said he joined members of the public and Odhiambo’s family to witness what he described as a critical step toward accountability.

“We were at the Nakuru Law Courts today to witness the court rule that six Kenya Wildlife Service officers have a case to answer for their role in the disappearance of Brian Odhiambo,” Mwangi said.

Odhiambo has been missing since January 2025 after he was allegedly arrested for engaging in illegal fishing inside Lake Nakuru National Park. His whereabouts remain unknown more than a year later.

The case has attracted national attention, with rights groups and residents questioning what transpired after the arrest.

Odhiambo is widely presumed dead, with claims that his body may have been disposed of within the park, allegations that have intensified public scrutiny of the officers involved.

Mwangi said the court’s decision to place the six officers on their defence marks a turning point in the matter.

“The much-awaited trial has attracted significant public interest, since Brian is presumed to have been killed by the KWS officers and his body disposed of inside the park,” he stated.

He further urged the judiciary to ensure that the case proceeds without delay, noting the emotional toll on Odhiambo’s family.

“We expect swift justice for Brian, and his mother, who has agonized for more than a year over the fate of her son,” Mwangi added.

The six officers are expected to return to court on June 8, 2026, when the defence hearing is scheduled to begin. The outcome of the case is likely to test public confidence in investigations involving state security agencies and conservation authorities.

For Odhiambo’s family, the court’s ruling represents renewed hope after months of uncertainty. As proceedings move to the next phase, attention remains fixed on whether the trial will provide answers about what happened on the day he was last seen alive.
