Medical doctor and health systems expert Amakove Wala has announced her intention to vie for the Vihiga County Woman Representative seat in the 2027 General Election, positioning her campaign around reforms targeting women’s welfare and systemic change.
In a statement shared on Facebook, Wala declared: “I am running for Vihiga County Women Representative. This seat is not about being known — it is about changing how systems work for women.”

Wala is a medical doctor trained at the University of Nairobi and holds a master’s degree in infectious diseases from the University of London.
With more than 15 years’ experience in health systems management, she has worked on policy development, health sector reforms, and universal health coverage initiatives.
She previously served as Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Medical Association and held leadership roles at AMREF Health Africa, where she contributed to medical outreach and health systems strengthening.

Beyond healthcare, Wala leads Beyond the Stethoscope, a platform supporting professional development for health workers.
She is also the founder of Wanderlust Diaries, a large travel community promoting sustainable tourism and domestic travel.
