The mystery surrounding the tragic death of Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ngeno has been clarified following the release of the official autopsy results for the helicopter crash in Mosop, Nandi County on February 28, 2026.
Government pathologists confirmed that MP Ngeno, along with five other victims, died from multiple traumatic injuries combined with severe burns, consistent with a high-impact aviation accident.
The findings dispel speculation about the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
The examination revealed extensive trauma to vital areas, including the head, chest, and spine, leaving no chance of survival.
In addition, the victims suffered varying degrees of burns, suggesting the helicopter likely caught fire immediately upon impact.
Authorities have confirmed the identities of all six victims through forensic techniques, including DNA testing, allowing funeral arrangements to move forward.
Besides MP Ngeno, the victims included the pilot, George Were, photographer Nicholas Kosgei, teacher Robert Kipkoech Keter, forest ranger Amos Kipngetich Rotich, and protocol officer Wycliffe Kiprotich Rono.
While the autopsy clarifies how the victims died, it does not yet explain why the crash occurred. Preliminary reports point to poor visibility and heavy mist as possible factors that contributed to the helicopter losing control and colliding with trees near Chepkiep.
Transport authorities have launched a formal investigation under International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards, with a preliminary report expected within 30 days.
Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir emphasized that the inquiry will determine whether technical failure, human error, or environmental conditions led to the crash.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula described the tragedy as a national loss and called for stricter aviation safety regulations, particularly for flights operating in challenging weather conditions.
Meanwhile, funeral preparations are underway, and the parliamentary leadership is coordinating a committee to oversee MP Ngeno’s final rites.
The autopsy report brings clarity to a devastating event that has left the nation mourning, while investigators continue to establish the exact chain of events leading to the crash.
