Detectives from DCI Turbo have arrested a man and woman accused of fatally punishing their 19-year-old nephew, Kevin Kipkorir Meli, in a shocking incident that occurred on February 2, 2026, at Kaplelach village, Kiplombe Location, Turbo Sub-County.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), police officers at Baharini Police Station received an urgent distress call reporting a young man brutally beaten to death.

Officers rushed to the scene, finding Kevin’s lifeless body under an avocado tree at his uncle’s homestead.

Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) teams documented multiple injuries on Kevin’s head, back, legs, and hands. A visible blood clot was noted in his nose.

His remains were later transported to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) morgue for autopsy and preservation.

Preliminary investigations revealed a grim motive: Kevin was accused of stealing and selling dry maize from his uncle’s home.

In what police describe as a violent act of retribution, Phillip Kosgei and Tecla Chepchirchir allegedly tied Kevin to an avocado tree before beating him with sticks and canes until he lost consciousness and succumbed to his injuries.

Officers recovered crucial evidence at the scene, including a manila rope used to restrain the victim and broken sticks used during the assault.

Both suspects are currently in police custody, undergoing processing ahead of their arraignment.

The DCI has promised a thorough investigation into the case, which has shocked the local community and sparked widespread debate about extreme corporal punishment within families.

Authorities have urged residents to report any suspected cases of abuse to prevent further tragedies, emphasizing that acts of violence, regardless of the motive, will be met with the full force of the law.
