President William Ruto has announced a sweeping set of development initiatives aimed at transforming Nairobi County, addressing long-standing challenges in infrastructure, housing, and public services.
Speaking to residents in Pipeline, Embakasi, Ruto highlighted plans to improve living conditions across the city.
“Our focus is on tackling key challenges, including poor waste management, informal settlements, water shortages, bad roads, and unreliable electricity,” the President said in a statement on X.
Under the new programme, Nairobi will see the construction of one priority road in each of its 85 electoral wards.
The government is also fast-tracking the Maragua 4 Dam project to enhance water supply and implementing measures to stabilise electricity distribution across the county.
In waste management, a comprehensive garbage collection service is set to begin on April 1, 2026, ensuring timely and consistent collection across the city.
Additionally, a treatment plant at the Dandora Dumpsite will be built next year to manage waste more effectively, produce fertiliser, and generate energy.
The housing sector will receive a major boost, with a KSh220 billion investment earmarked for 169,000 affordable housing units, 16 modern markets, and hostels to accommodate 14,000 students.
Education infrastructure is also set for expansion, with 700 new classrooms planned to provide additional learning spaces for 21,000 pupils in public schools.
The programmes will roll out progressively across the county, with officials assuring that local communities will benefit directly from improved roads, water supply, electricity, and housing, as well as better access to education and markets.
