Western Kenya has witnessed a renewed crackdown on the illegal alcohol trade as the National Police Service continues coordinated operations across the region.
In Kakamega County, officers from Matete Police Station arrested four individuals in the Chevaywa area after confiscating 70 litres of illicit brew.
Authorities said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to disrupt the production and distribution of unlicensed alcohol.
Similarly, in Vihiga County, Serem Police Station officers apprehended three suspects and seized 52 litres of chang’aa, a locally brewed spirit often linked to health hazards and criminal activity.
All seven suspects from both counties remain in police custody, awaiting arraignment.
The National Police Service emphasized that these operations form part of a broader strategy to eliminate illicit alcohol, which poses serious risks to public health and safety.
Officers conducting these raids continue to work in collaboration with community members to identify production hotspots and prevent further circulation of illegal brews.
Officials reiterated that anyone involved in producing or distributing unlicensed alcohol would face strict legal action under Kenyan law.
Residents were urged to report suspicious activities to local authorities to aid enforcement efforts and protect communities from the dangers of illicit alcohol consumption.
The operations reflect the police’s sustained commitment to tackling a problem that has long affected Western Kenya, with authorities promising continued vigilance and enforcement to ensure compliance with licensing regulations.
