Kenya is moving to strengthen collaboration with global philanthropic organizations as part of its push for sustainable development and youth empowerment.

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs recently held a high-level meeting with the President of the Ford Foundation, Ms. Heather Gerken, and Regional Director, Ms. Margrete Mliwa.

The discussions focused on building stronger ties between global philanthropy and Kenya’s development priorities.

Key highlights included the progress of the Host Country Agreement between the Government of Kenya and the Ford Foundation, which is expected to enhance cooperation in delivering impactful programmes across the country.

“The dialogue centred on identifying practical pathways for partnership that can deliver meaningful results for Kenyans,” the CS stated on social media.

The meeting also addressed Kenya’s demographic realities, particularly the growing youth population.

With over 60 percent of the population under the age of 25, Kenya’s youth bulge presents both opportunities and challenges.

The CS emphasized the importance of investing in young people as a driver for innovation, enterprise, and long-term economic growth.

“Youth empowerment is not just a policy objective—it is central to shaping Kenya’s future economy,” the CS noted.

The discussions explored collaborative projects designed to accelerate youth-focused programmes, ranging from skills development and entrepreneurship support to community-based initiatives that can foster employment and innovation.

As Kenya continues to prioritize youth empowerment and inclusive growth, these high-level engagements signal a renewed commitment to leveraging global partnerships to address domestic development challenges while preparing the next generation for leadership and economic participation.
