Police officers at Diani Police Station have arrested two suspects believed to be central figures in a criminal gang that has been causing unrest in the Tanduri area along the Diani beachfront.

The operation, part of an intensified security sweep along the Ukunda beachline, targeted organised criminal groups suspected of threatening public safety in the popular coastal destination.

Authorities said the arrests mark a significant step in ongoing efforts to curb crime and protect both residents and tourists.

The suspects, identified as 29-year-old Kennedy Hassan and 24-year-old Brian Mwangi Karanja, are currently in police custody at Diani Police Station.

They are undergoing processing ahead of their arraignment in court.

Police did not immediately disclose the specific crimes linked to the suspects, but confirmed their connection to a wider gang network operating in the area.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling criminal networks and restoring public confidence along Kenya’s coastal regions.

“We remain resolute in our mission to ensure that streets and beaches are safe for everyone,” a DCI spokesperson said.

Local authorities have urged residents and visitors to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity as the crackdown continues.

The arrests come amid growing concerns over the safety of coastal communities, particularly in areas frequented by tourists, highlighting the government’s intensified focus on maintaining law and order along Kenya’s beaches.

The investigation into the gang’s activities is ongoing, with further arrests expected as security operations continue across Diani and neighbouring coastal towns.
