Media personality Shugar Boy has officially announced his exit from Radio Maisha, bringing to a close a nine-year career that he says transformed his life both personally and financially.

In an emotional post on social media, Shugar Boy reflected on his journey from a “very virgin” entrant into the media world to a self-described “multi-millionaire.”

“Today marks the end of my tenure at Radio Maisha. Woow, it has been a nine-year sweet ride here. I came in as a boy, leaving as a mature man. I came in broke, now leaving as a multi-millionaire,” Sugar Boy wrote.

He added that the station shaped his career, giving him both “sweet and sour” memories that ultimately equipped him for the next chapter.

Highlighting his material growth over the years, Shugar Boy shared that the radio station enabled him to acquire three personal cars—including a Crown, Vitz, and Lexus—two 14-seater matatus, a tuk-tuk, five motorcycles, a liquor pub, two rental houses, a five-bedroom home under construction, four pieces of land, and consistent access to food and rent for nine straight years.

Despite his wealth, Sugar Boy noted that he is not a show-off but wanted to share his journey as a testimony of growth.

He also clarified that he would not tolerate financial requests from others, signaling a desire for independence as he embarks on new ventures.

Looking ahead, Sugar Boy plans to focus on agriculture and politics, signaling a major career pivot.

He also stated that he will not join another media house unless offered a monthly pay exceeding KSh 700,000.

He added a personal note to his peers and fans, urging: “Na marafiki msije mkanitenga …” —a reminder that his relationships and support network remain important despite his departure.

In closing, Sugar Boy thanked his colleagues and listeners for their support over the years: “Bye my love Radio Maisha. Tuko mbele pamoja.”

His departure marks the end of an era for the station, which has been a launching pad for one of Kenya’s most recognizable media figures.
