A Kenyan teacher and outspoken blogger, Mutai Mutandao, has raised alarm after claiming that officers believed to be from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) stormed his workstation looking for him.
In a series of posts shared on social media, Mutai alleged that individuals who identified themselves as DCI officers from Kisumu had been sent to trace him, triggering concern among teachers and online followers who have closely followed his advocacy work.
“Update — We are receiving disturbing news that DCI officers who identified themselves as from Kisumu are looking for Mutai,” he wrote.
“TSC Bureti gave out all my information. Should anything happen to me I will blame my Subcounty.”
The teacher further claimed that his online platform, which he said champions the welfare of teachers across the country, would continue operating regardless of the alleged intimidation.
“Our page shall continue protecting the interests of teachers countrywide,” he added.
In a separate post, Mutai questioned the circumstances surrounding the alleged deployment of officers, asking: “How can a whole TSC Kenya deploy suburas from Kisumu to my workstation?”
Shortly after publishing the statements, Mutai’s Facebook page became inaccessible, fueling speculation among supporters that the page may have been taken down following the posts.
The disappearance prompted renewed debate online over the safety of teachers and bloggers who speak out on institutional issues.
Mutai has been particularly vocal over the past year, frequently highlighting grievances affecting teachers, including working conditions, administrative pressure, and accountability within the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
