Former Gender and Culture Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa has intensified her early campaign activities for the Kilifi gubernatorial seat, using a midweek visit to Malindi Market to reconnect with traders and residents.

In a statement shared on social media on Wednesday, February 4, Jumwa said she was encouraged by what she described as overwhelming goodwill from traders during what she termed a random interaction at the busy market.

She noted that the engagement reinforced her belief in people-centred leadership.

“I was deeply encouraged by the overwhelming goodwill and support I received from traders at Malindi Market this morning during my random visit,” Jumwa said.

“Your voices, struggles, and hopes reaffirm why we must stand for leadership that listens, delivers, and puts wananchi first.”

Jumwa thanked the traders for the warm reception, adding that collective effort was key to addressing the county’s challenges.

The former CS is currently the board chairperson of the Kenya Roads Board and is seeking to revive her political fortunes in Kilifi after losing the 2022 gubernatorial race to incumbent Governor Gideon Maitha Mung’aro.

In that election, Jumwa contested on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.

This time, she is eyeing the seat under the Pamoja African Alliance (PAA), a party associated with Kilifi politics and led by Senate Speaker Amason Kingi.

Her move signals a shift in political strategy as alliances begin to take shape ahead of the next general election.

Jumwa has positioned herself as a leader with grassroots appeal, frequently highlighting direct engagement with residents, especially traders and small business owners, as central to her campaign message.

However, Kilifi’s political landscape is expected to heat up as early contenders test the ground and seek to consolidate support.

“Asanteni sana kwa mapokezi yenu, pamoja tunaweza,” Jumwa said, closing her statement with a call for unity.
