Police in Nyeri County have launched a manhunt for an officer attached to Mweiga Police Station following serious allegations of sexual abuse involving a minor.

According to preliminary reports, the suspect had been cohabiting with a single mother of four for approximately seven months.

During that period, he lived in the same household with her children and was regarded as a guardian figure.

The matter came to light after the woman sought medical attention for her Grade 8 daughter, who had reportedly fallen ill. Medical examinations later confirmed that the minor was pregnant.

Health officials also raised concerns consistent with sexual abuse, prompting further investigation.

The case was formally reported at Mweiga Police Station, triggering an internal probe. Authorities say the officer went into hiding shortly after the allegations surfaced, and efforts to locate him are ongoing.

Police have emphasized that the case is being handled as a serious criminal matter, noting that any form of sexual abuse involving minors carries severe legal consequences under Kenyan law.

Officers have also cautioned against any attempts to interfere with investigations or pursue informal settlements, stating that such cases must proceed through the justice system.

Child protection stakeholders have expressed concern over the incident, highlighting the vulnerability of minors within domestic environments.

They have called for increased vigilance among parents and guardians, particularly when introducing new individuals into family settings.

The victim is currently receiving medical care and psychosocial support as investigations continue.

Authorities are urging anyone with credible information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts to report to the nearest police station.
