The National Police Service (NPS) has moved to hold senior commanders accountable after a violent night raid by police officers at a pool venue in Nandi Hills sparked public outrage and renewed scrutiny over police conduct.

In a statement released on Satuday, the Office of the Inspector General confirmed that six senior officers have been subjected to immediate administrative action after investigations by the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU).

The action follows the circulation of CCTV footage showing officers assaulting young men who were playing pool at a local establishment late at night.

Those affected include the Tinderet Sub-County Police Commander, the Officers Commanding Stations for Songoh and Nandi Hills, and officers in charge of the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU), General Service Unit (GSU), and Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) at Songoh Camp.

The Inspector General approved the IAU’s recommendations, citing the need to enforce command responsibility at the local level.

The incident occurred when police officers stormed the pool hall during night hours and confronted several youths.

CCTV footage showed officers slapping, kicking, and beating the unarmed men, actions that witnesses said were unprovoked.

The officers reportedly accused the youths of loitering late at night, despite the venue being operational at the time.

The footage, widely shared on social media, triggered condemnation from members of the public, civil society groups, and leaders who questioned the continued use of excessive force by police during routine operations.

The incident also reignited debate on accountability and discipline within the service.

The NPS said the disciplinary action against senior officers was deliberate, emphasizing that commanders bear full responsibility for the conduct of officers under their jurisdiction.

The service reiterated that misconduct would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

NPS expressed regret over the Nandi Hills incident, offered sympathies to the victims, and reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, public safety, and the rule of law.
