DAP-Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa has moved to firmly shut down claims that he is on the verge of joining President William Ruto’s broad-based government, saying the narrative is being deliberately peddled to mislead the public and weaken the opposition.

In a statement issued on X, Wamalwa said recent consultations with National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya had been wrongly framed as secret negotiations for a political deal.

He maintained that dialogue among leaders should not be confused with political surrender or defection.

Wamalwa insisted that his political position remains unchanged, stating that he has no intention of working with the current administration.

He said his engagement with government figures does not dilute his opposition credentials, nor does it signal support for what he termed a failed governance record.

The DAP-Kenya leader accused the Ruto administration of underperforming in critical sectors, including education, healthcare, public finance, and national security.

He argued that these failures form the basis of his resolve to challenge the President in the next general election.

Positioning himself as a contender in the 2027 presidential race, Wamalwa said his priority is to offer Kenyans an alternative leadership path rather than seeking accommodation within the existing power structure.

He described claims of an impending defection as politically convenient falsehoods driven by detractors.

Wamalwa also addressed his ongoing consultations within the Mulembe region, stressing that he will continue engaging leaders across the political divide in his quest to unite the community.

He said such efforts are personal and historical, dating back to the death of his elder brother, former Vice President Michael Wamalwa Kijana.

Separately, the DAP-K leader said he had visited Trans Nzoia to condole with County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture Phanice Khatundi following the death of her father-in-law, Mzee Newton Aluda.

He described Aluda as among the early settlers who played a role in shaping the county.
