Head of Presidential Special Projects and the Creative Economy Dennis Itumbi has strongly dismissed claims by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua that a meeting at Sagana State Lodge was used to plan punitive action against Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi.
In a statement responding directly to Gachagua’s allegations, Itumbi said no such meeting took place and accused the former deputy president of deliberately misleading the public.
Gachagua had claimed that Kiambu Members of Parliament pressured President William Ruto during a January 12 meeting at Sagana to order the demolition of Wamatangi’s business premises and pave the way for criminal charges.
“There was no meeting. Period,” Itumbi said.
He insisted that what took place was an informal social interaction involving a small group of people, not a political strategy session.
He further denied the presence of National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, contradicting claims that senior political figures were involved in alleged planning.
“The bonfire chat circle had 10 people. I was right there. No agenda, no plotting, no issues being discussed. Just vibes, laughter and reflections of the day,” Itumbi stated.
Gachagua has linked the Sagana encounter to the demolition of Governor Wamatangi’s properties near Nyayo Stadium and claimed that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) were preparing charges against the governor.
He framed the incident as part of a broader campaign to suppress political dissent and weaken the DCP Party in Mount Kenya.
“You can actually oppose the President without lying,” he said, accusing Gachagua of manufacturing events to advance a political agenda.
The demolition of Wamatangi’s business premises has sparked political debate, with allies of the governor alleging state persecution, while government-linked officials have denied any political motive.
