Veteran gospel musician and politician Reuben Kigame has criticized African presidents for signing international agreements, arguing that some leaders prioritize foreign policies over local solutions.

In a post on X, Kigame referred to what he described as an “identity crisis and inferiority complex” among some African leaders, who he says “believe foreign things, policies, ideas and resources are better than ours.”

His comments come in the wake of several high-profile deals involving African nations. Recently, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo signed a peace agreement in the United States in the presence of former President Donald Trump.

Around the same time, President William Ruto of Kenya visited the US and signed a health framework deal, a move that has drawn significant public attention and triggered legal challenges in Kenyan courts.

Kigame said such actions, where leaders commit to foreign agreements, risk undermining the interests of local populations.

“They will sign any deal proposed by foreign powers, even if such deals imply selling their own people,” he wrote.

He further urged, “Please ask them to leave and migrate to those countries and allow us to fix Africa.”

The musician and politician did not single out individual leaders by name but emphasized his concern about the broader trend of African presidents prioritizing international partnerships over domestic priorities.

Kigame’s post highlights ongoing debates about leadership accountability, national sovereignty, and the balance between foreign collaboration and local interests.

His remarks add to a wider conversation on how African leaders navigate international engagements while serving the needs of their citizens.
