Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya has visited Kenyan Defence Forces (KDF) troops serving in Somalia, sending a strong message of solidarity to soldiers deployed far from home.
The visit took place in Kismayo, where Kenyan troops are operating under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission (AUSSOM).
Tuya was accompanied by Kenya Army Commander Lieutenant General David Ketter.
The visit came as the year draws to a close, a period when many soldiers remain on duty while others celebrate the festive season with their families.
During the visit, Tuya praised the troops for their discipline, bravery, and commitment in a mission she described as critical to regional stability.
She said the KDF deployment plays a key role in advancing peace efforts in Somalia while also supporting humanitarian initiatives.
“This mission embodies the values of service, responsibility, and solidarity that define the Kenya Defence Forces,” Tuya said.
She also acknowledged the support of regional and international partners, noting that cooperation remains essential to the success of the operation.
The Defence CS extended her appreciation to the families of the deployed soldiers, saying they carry a heavy burden while their loved ones serve abroad.
She described the visit as a show of gratitude to both the troops and their families for the sacrifices they continue to make.
As the festive season approaches, Tuya said the government recognizes the challenges faced by soldiers serving in high-risk environments.
She wished the troops strength, protection, and renewed courage as they continue with their duties in Somalia.
Tuya reaffirmed that the welfare, safety, and well-being of KDF personnel remain a top priority for the Ministry of Defence. She emphasized that the service and sacrifices of Kenyan soldiers do not go unnoticed.
Kenya remains one of the key contributors to peace and stabilization efforts in Somalia, with KDF troops playing a central role in maintaining security in the region under the African Union mission.
