President William Ruto has pledged to fast-track development in Nyanza, promising transformative projects to correct decades of historical marginalization.

Speaking on social media, Ruto said the region had long been left behind, a situation he described as “unacceptable,” and vowed bold interventions to uplift local communities.

In Migori County, the President announced a KSh45 billion investment—the largest allocation since independence.

Key projects include the construction of 10 new roads costing KSh1.7 billion, a KSh23 billion affordable housing initiative, a KSh900 million stadium, and a KSh500 million Muhuru Bay pier.

According to Ruto, these projects aim to enhance infrastructure, stimulate local economies, and improve living standards across the county.

The President also laid the foundation stone for new hostels at Rongo University, designed to accommodate over 2,300 students.

The move coincides with the 5th Piny Luo Festival hosted at the university, highlighting the government’s commitment to supporting cultural and educational initiatives in the region.

“These investments are part of a deliberate effort to correct the intentional discrimination that has hindered Nyanza’s growth for decades,” Ruto stated.

He emphasized that the government would continue to prioritize projects that directly impact residents’ quality of life, from transport and housing to education and sports infrastructure.

Residents, meanwhile, are hopeful that these projects will bring jobs, improve access to essential services, and transform the socio-economic landscape of Nyanza.

Ruto’s announcements mark a strategic push to ensure that Nyanza finally receives sustained attention in Kenya’s national development agenda.
