President William Ruto on Wednesday made history at the 5th Piny Luo Festival in Migori County, where he was crowned a Luo elder in a symbolic gesture of cultural unity.

The festival, held at Senye Beach, drew thousands of locals and visitors, with lively activities including boat riding, wrestling, pot racing, and swimming.

Taking to social media, President Ruto emphasized the importance of preserving Kenya’s diverse cultural heritage.

“Culture brings people together, strengthens community bonds, and from this shared identity builds a united nation anchored in diversity and mutual respect,” he posted.

He added that Kenya’s development and political transformation must rise above tribalism, hatred, and division, urging citizens to rally around national priorities and strong political parties.

Later, at the historic Thimlich Ohinga site, President Ruto was ceremoniously crowned alongside ODM leader Hon. Oburu Odinga.

Both leaders pledged to champion the creation of a dedicated cultural centre at Thimlich Ohinga, aimed at preserving history, boosting tourism, and passing on Kenya’s heritage to future generations.

The event highlighted Kenya’s rich traditions while signaling a commitment from political leaders to unite communities through culture and shared values, sending a message that national cohesion can be strengthened when cultural pride meets development goals.
