Political activist and public figure Morara Kebaso has responded to growing speculation surrounding his marriage to Mercy and claims that he is now engaged to a woman identified as Pauline.
In a statement shared on social media, Kebaso said he would prefer to keep matters concerning his family away from public discussions, but acknowledged that silence often creates room for speculation.
“I will not want to discuss my family on social media,” Kebaso said, adding that he had learnt from previous experiences that Kenyan social media can quickly turn into a “mob” when factual information is unavailable.
According to Kebaso, remaining silent does not necessarily stop speculation, as people may fill the information gap with claims that are later treated as facts.
“The absence of factual information makes falsehood the only available information,” he said.
The remarks came amid claims circulating online that Kebaso had divorced his wife Mercy and subsequently become engaged to Pauline.
However, Kebaso did not directly confirm or deny the reported divorce or engagement. Instead, he urged the public to respect the privacy of his family and avoid drawing conclusions about their personal decisions.
He specifically praised Mercy for her role as the mother of their three children, Zainah Morara, Garang Morara and MK Junior.
“Mercy has earned her place of high respect as the mother of 3 children,” Kebaso said, urging the public to allow her to enjoy the respect and honour she deserves.
He also noted that families have different ways of handling their affairs, cautioning against imposing personal values and expectations on other people's relationships.
“Every home and family has its own way of doing things. Your values are not our values. Your choices are not our choices,” he stated.
Kebaso further appealed to Kenyans not to place him in a situation where he repeatedly has to address personal matters online.
He said his family had given him the “permission and blessing” to continue serving the country as a leader, adding that he wanted to remain focused on that responsibility.
Addressing Pauline, Kebaso appeared supportive, saying she was “doing a great job” and expressing “100% support”.
He concluded his statement with a call to move forward, saying: “Maintain what needs to be maintained, fix what needs to be fixed, ignore what needs to be ignored. Be fruitful. Tusonge mbele.”
The statement has since added a new layer to online discussions over Kebaso's private life, although he stopped short of providing details about the reported changes in his relationship status.
