Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has once again attracted public attention after sharing a throwback photograph showing himself in a drunken state while holding a bottle of Chrome, offering an unusual glimpse into his life before he became a household name in Kenyan politics.
The outspoken legislator posted the old photograph on social media, where he appeared visibly intoxicated and seemingly unaware of the public scrutiny that would later accompany his political career.
The image quickly stood out because of the contrast between Salasya’s current position as a Member of Parliament and the version of himself captured in the old photograph.
Salasya has built a reputation as one of the most unconventional politicians in Kenya, frequently generating headlines through his candid remarks, humorous moments and outspoken approach to political issues.
His decision to publicly share a photograph depicting himself while drunk appeared to reinforce the image of a politician who is willing to expose different chapters of his personal journey to his followers.

He has also faced backlash over remarks directed at Bomet Woman Representative Linet Chepkorir, popularly known as Toto, and has previously been embroiled in a hate-speech case arising from remarks made on social media.
Despite the controversies, Salasya has continued to maintain a significant following, particularly among young Kenyans who have closely followed his rise from relatively humble beginnings to Parliament.
His political journey has included working as a bicycle salesperson, teaching and employment in banking before he successfully contested the Mumias East parliamentary seat in the 2022 General Election.
