Businessman and emerging political figure Oketch Salah has announced that he met prominent lawyer and political activist Dr Miguna Miguna during his visit to Canada.
Salah said he arrived in Canada for business accompanied by his first-born son, Abdinoor, before meeting Miguna, whom he described as his “brother-in-law” because Miguna is married into a family from Migori.
According to Salah, the meeting provided an opportunity for the two to have an open conversation about the state of affairs in Kenya, including politics, the economy, leadership and national development.
“We had a very good and open conversation about many things, especially the current situation in our beloved country, Kenya,” Salah said in a statement.
He said their discussions also focused on the direction Kenya is taking and the country's prospects amid ongoing political and economic debates.
Salah used the occasion to express his assessment of President William Ruto's administration, arguing that the country had made progress in several areas under the current government.
“Under the leadership of H.E. President William Samoei Ruto, Kenya has made progress in many areas,” he said.
However, Salah acknowledged that the government continues to face challenges, noting that difficulties are an inevitable part of running a country.
“There are challenges, as there will always be, but we must also appreciate and acknowledge the good things happening in our country,” he added.
His remarks amounted to an expression of support for Ruto's leadership at a time when the administration continues to face scrutiny over the economy, the cost of living, governance and its political alliances ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Salah concluded his message by thanking the President for his efforts in running the country and serving Kenyans.
“Thank you, Your Excellency President Ruto, for continuing to do your best for Kenya and its people,” he said.
The meeting is likely to attract attention because of the contrasting political histories of the two men.
Salah has gained national visibility largely through his association with the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and his claims of a close relationship with the former opposition leader.
Miguna, meanwhile, is a veteran lawyer and political activist who previously served as a senior adviser to Raila during his tenure as Prime Minister.
The two later became political adversaries, with Miguna emerging as a vocal critic of Raila and the political establishment around him.
Salah's meeting with Miguna therefore brings together two figures associated in different ways with Kenya's opposition politics and Raila's political legacy, even as Salah publicly acknowledges what he considers achievements under Ruto's administration.
