Nairobi County Executive Committee Member (CEC) for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service Geoffrey Mosiria has warned Senator Edwin Sifuna to be cautious amid growing political tensions within the Linda Mwananchi movement.
Mosiria claimed that Sifuna could be facing a political challenge from senior figures within the opposition movement, days after Siaya Governor James Orengo publicly declared his interest in the 2027 presidential race.
In a statement shared on social media, Mosiria revisited an earlier post in which he had alleged that Orengo and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino were planning to politically weaken Sifuna.
Mosiria claimed that information from what he described as “reliable sources” indicated that tensions had emerged during a recent Linda Mwananchi meeting.
According to Mosiria, Orengo allegedly told Sifuna that his experience in Kenyan politics made it impossible for him to accept Sifuna as his party leader while he remained active in politics.
Mosiria further alleged that Orengo gave Sifuna an ultimatum to either support his political ambitions or leave Linda Mwananchi.
He also claimed that Babu Owino supported Orengo's position, allegedly arguing that Sifuna was still relatively inexperienced because he is serving his first elected term as a senator.
The allegations have not been independently verified, and neither Orengo nor Owino was immediately quoted confirming the reported exchanges.
Mosiria's warning came shortly after Orengo made his presidential ambitions public while addressing mourners in Homa Bay.
Orengo declared himself a “serious presidential candidate” and subsequently made remarks interpreted by some observers as a challenge to Sifuna's emerging national ambitions.
In a video referenced by Mosiria, Orengo is heard stressing his long experience in Kenyan politics before appearing to question Sifuna's position as a party leader while he remains active in politics.
“There is no politician here who has been in politics longer than I have,” Orengo said, according to the video cited by Mosiria.
Mosiria argued that the development could expose underlying succession battles within Linda Mwananchi following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
He questioned why Owino and Orengo had not publicly and consistently endorsed Sifuna for the presidency if they genuinely supported his ambitions.
Mosiria also urged Sifuna to exercise caution, alleging that the two politicians could have presidential ambitions of their own.
“Babu atakumaliza wakiwa na Orengo,” Mosiria warned, loosely translated as: “Babu will finish you together with Orengo.”
However, the claims remain allegations by Mosiria and should not be treated as established fact without independent confirmation.
The latest developments could nevertheless intensify scrutiny of Linda Mwananchi as opposition figures position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
