Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has sharply criticised Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, adding fresh pressure to an already heated debate over President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election strategy.
In remarks that have sparked political reactions, Ahmednasir questioned Kindiki’s value to the ruling coalition, arguing that he does not strengthen the presidential ticket.
“He adds nothing useful to any ticket. He is a dwarf in multiple senses. He is lightweight in more than one way.”
The senior counsel went further, describing the Deputy President as a political burden to the administration.
“He is a liability personified. He is well past his sell by date. He is a dead stock. He is dead as a dodo.”
The criticism comes amid rising scrutiny of Kindiki’s influence in the Mt Kenya region, a key voting bloc for the Kenya Kwanza alliance.
The recent loss by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in the Ol Kalou by-election has been interpreted by some observers as a sign of weakening support in the region.
Ahmednasir also claimed that the Deputy President is out of touch with the electorate in his backyard.
“His Mt Kenya people ridicule and loathe him...and rightly so.”
He concluded by calling on President Ruto to make a decisive political move ahead of the next election cycle.
“He is a political freeloader taking complimentary ride at the back of his Boss. President Ruto MUST LET HIM GO!”
The remarks reflect growing political tensions as leaders from regions such as Nyanza, Western and the Coast position themselves for greater influence in the 2027 race.
The deputy presidency has increasingly become a focal point in these calculations, with competing interests pushing for representation.
Kindiki’s allies, however, maintain that he remains focused on government delivery and continues to support the President’s agenda.
They argue that his leadership style is deliberate and measured, rather than driven by public spectacle.
With less than two years to the General Election, attention is turning to how regional dynamics will shape the composition of the presidential ticket.
For President Ruto, the choice of a running mate is expected to play a critical role in consolidating national support.
