Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has claimed he enjoys significant backing within key state institutions, asserting that he has access to sensitive government information through undisclosed networks inside the administration.
Speaking during an interview on KTN News on Wednesday evening, July 22, Gachagua alleged that a majority of officers within critical security and administrative agencies are aligned with him, enabling him to obtain insider details that inform his public criticism of President William Ruto’s government.
“75% of the National Intelligence Service is with me. 90% of the National Police Service is with me. The entire civil service is with me. I am a smooth operator,” Gachagua stated during the interview.
He further indicated that his access to information is carefully managed to protect those within government who share it with him.
“I am able to get information from government people without exposing them,” he added.
The remarks are likely to intensify political tensions, coming amid an escalating fallout between Gachagua and President Ruto following his exit from government.
In recent weeks, Gachagua has emerged as a vocal critic of the administration, frequently citing insider knowledge to challenge policy decisions and governance approaches.
However, the claims raise serious questions about the integrity and neutrality of state institutions, particularly security agencies that are expected to operate independently and serve the public interest without political influence.
There was no immediate response from the National Intelligence Service, the National Police Service, or the Public Service Commission regarding the assertions made by the former deputy president.
At the same time, Gachagua’s comments may resonate with sections of the public who have been questioning transparency within government, especially on matters of security and policy implementation.
