Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has echoed calls for restraint ahead of Thursday’s planned Gen Z demonstrations, aligning himself with remarks made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua urging caution and strategic engagement.
The protests, expected to mark remembrance of victims of the 2024 anti-tax demonstrations, have continued to attract mixed political reactions.
In a statement shared on social media, Caleb Amisi said he agreed with Gachagua’s warning that protesters should avoid actions that could play into what he described as government traps.
“I agree with H.E. Rigathi Gachagua, EGH. Do not play into government hands of killing protesters,” he said.
Amisi added that political change requires more than street mobilisation, arguing that emotional reactions could weaken the broader cause.
“Removing Ruto needs not only shouting in rallies but brains as well,” he stated, urging supporters to adopt what he termed a more strategic approach to opposition politics.
He further cautioned that poorly coordinated demonstrations risked pushing citizens into confrontations that may favour authorities.
“Most of us are too emotional to use brains and therefore leading people to his comfort zone,” he added, calling for a “renaissance” in how political activism is conducted in the country.
His remarks come in the wake of comments by Rigathi Gachagua, who urged Kenyans to stay off the streets during Thursday’s protests, citing fears of infiltration by organised groups and potential violence.
Gachagua had advised citizens to remain indoors and pursue constitutional methods of expressing dissent.
