Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has arrived in the United Kingdom, kicking off a brief but strategic visit aimed at engaging Kenyans in the diaspora and advancing the agenda of his Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).

In a statement issued upon arrival in London, Gachagua said he was accompanied by his spouse, Rev. Dorcas Rigathi, and a delegation for a series of meetings with Kenyans living and working abroad.

He described the diaspora as a critical pillar in Kenya’s economic development, citing its contribution through remittances, investment, and professional networks.

“Together with my spouse Rev. Dorcas Rigathi and our delegation, I am pleased to announce that we have arrived in London, United Kingdom, to engage with Kenyans living and working in the diaspora,” he said.

Gachagua noted that the visit would focus on leaders, professionals, and entrepreneurs, arguing that their role in shaping Kenya’s economic trajectory remains significant despite policy challenges at home.

He claimed that unfavourable policies have continued to limit the diaspora’s full participation in national development.

“The diaspora community comprising leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, and supporters plays a vital role in shaping our country’s economic trajectory. However, their efforts in Kenya are often hindered by unfavorable policies,” he added.

The UK trip is also part of a broader political strategy tied to the growth of DCP ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Gachagua said he would use the opportunity to popularise the party among Kenyans abroad, positioning it as an alternative political movement aligned with their aspirations.

“During my time in London, I will also have the opportunity to promote our party, Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), which is currently the party of the moment,” he said.

He further stated that the party’s philosophy resonates with the values of Kenyans in the diaspora, signalling an attempt to build both political and financial backing from abroad.

“Our party’s philosophy aligns closely with the values and aspirations of the diaspora community, and I look forward to sharing our vision with them,” he added.

Gachagua’s visit comes amid efforts by DCP to raise substantial funds for its activities, with the party estimating it will require billions of shillings to run nominations and field candidates nationwide.
