Silas Jakakimba has condemned reported violent incidents in Mbita Point, Suba North Constituency, urging political actors to embrace restraint and reject any form of intimidation or chaos during political engagement.

In a statement issued while he was in South Africa, Jakakimba said he had taken note of the disturbances and described them as regrettable and incompatible with democratic practice.

“While on a trip to South Africa, my attention has been drawn to extremely sad occurrences that took place yesterday in Mbita Point, the headquarters of Suba North Constituency,” he stated.

He added that political competition must remain grounded in ideas rather than hostility, warning that any form of violence undermines democratic progress.

“I wish to categorically state that political intolerance and violence of whatever nature, from whichever quarters, is both illegal and outdated in these modern times where leaders must root for and forge political competition purely premised on leveraging of better ideas,” he said.

Jakakimba further called for restraint from all sides involved in the unfolding political tensions, noting that escalation could destabilize the constituency’s political environment ahead of future elections.

“I therefore urge for extreme restraint from all actors in the ensuing political terrains, and take this earliest opportunity to condemn in the strongest terms possibly conceivable what seems like an emerging culture of intolerance,” he said.

The lawyer and political aspirant also reflected on his long involvement in the region’s political landscape, tracing his history from youth leadership roles to his association with national political structures.

“I have been involved in Mbita and currently Suba North Constituency politics and public affairs for the longest,” he noted, adding, “One thing has been clear—Suba North Constituency does not and will never accommodate politics of intolerance.”

Jakakimba also reaffirmed his political commitment to the area, referencing his past roles and continued engagement in grassroots mobilisation efforts.

He said the region’s political tradition has generally been anchored on competition of ideas rather than confrontation, urging leaders to protect that legacy.

While he did not directly assign blame for the Mbita Point incidents, his statement called for accountability and peaceful political engagement as competition begins to intensify ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
