Prophetess Irene Kendi Abuta has sparked discussion after issuing a spiritual message linking former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s decision to quit alcohol and exit the nightclub business to what she describes as a wider “celebrity revival.”
Sonko recently announced that he will close or lease out his VIP club in Shanzu, Mombasa, and fully leave the alcohol industry, saying he is pursuing a more spiritual direction.
He also said he would dispose of remaining alcohol stock in his establishment, marking a clear shift in his personal and business life.
Reacting to the development, Prophetess Abuta framed Sonko’s move as part of what she believes is a broader spiritual shift among public figures.
“Hawa wote, and many more, as I told you sometimes last year and part of 2023, they shall preach the true word and gospel of God, na hakuna theology ama training ya mtu wataenda. They shall be taught by the greatest teacher, the Holy Spirit. Isaiah 54:13”
She added that, in her view, such transitions are not limited by background or status, but by divine calling.
“If I, Mamre, decided to leave everything for God, and to do life with the holy trinity, there is no one else who the Lord Almighty can’t stretch His hand of power, glory and fire to be used for greater and mighty things, all for His glory and honor in all nation. Jeremiah 1:5”
In her remarks, she mentioned a number of Kenyan and international celebrities, including Churchill, Ambery, musician Avril, preacher Paul Kobia, Risper Faith, as well as global figures such as Rihanna and A$AP Rocky.
“Churchill, Ambery, Paul Kobia (Presdaa), Avril, Risper Faith, Kina Rihanna and her husband A$AP Rocky, and many more, there shall be an eruption of celebrity revival in Kenya and globally…”
She suggested that their influence, previously associated with entertainment culture, could shift toward religious messaging.
“…due to their influence that the devil has used for ages to demonically influence the youth and even the old, but it’s time for God to snare up those demons and send them back to hell and use His divinely orchestrated vessels as it has been His intention. Philippians 2:10-11”
According to her, those who undergo such transformation would become committed followers in faith.
“They shall in-turn make the most loyal and dedicated disciples of the Holy Spirit for they have been subjected to almost all form of evil… na wataimba wimbo mpya ya kwamba anakomboa, huyu Yesu. Psalms 96:1”
On Mike Sonko, she welcomed his reported exit from the alcohol business, describing it as a step in what she termed a spiritual realignment.
“For now, let’s have Sonko and have him in the kingdom of light… Sonko welcome to this side of light and God’s immense power that is immeasurable and unfathomable by men.”
She further emphasized that, in her view, spiritual calling is not controlled by human systems or institutions.
“Mungu haulizangwi na hakoconsultingi who to use, when, where and how? He is not men in power or ‘church’ he is God, ABBA father.”
