Kileleshwa Ward Member of County Assembly Robert Alai has called for a full-scale investigation into the death of 22-year-old Murang’a University student Consolata “Connie” Githinji, who died after falling from a sixth-floor apartment in Kaisa Garden Apartments along Laikipia Road in Nairobi.

In a statement, Alai expressed sorrow over the incident, describing Connie as a young Kenyan whose future was abruptly cut short under “violent and unexplained circumstances” within his ward.

“It is with a heavy heart and deep sorrow that I address the residents of Kileleshwa Ward following the heartbreaking death of Ms. Consolata ‘Connie’ Githinji… a young woman with her entire life ahead of her, months away from completing her university education,” he said.

Condolences to the family

Alai extended condolences to the family, friends, and university colleagues of the deceased, stating that the community stands in solidarity with them as investigations continue.

“To Connie’s parents, siblings, classmates at Murang’a University… there are no words I can offer that will fill the void her death has left. The people of Kileleshwa stand with you,” he said, adding that he is committed to pursuing justice alongside the family.

He urged calm while assuring residents that the matter would not be ignored at the local leadership level.

Questions raised over CCTV timeline

The MCA also cited emerging CCTV footage reports, which allegedly captured Connie’s arrival at the apartment at 4:17 a.m., entry into the building moments later, and suspicious movements in the corridor shortly before her fall.

“These minutes hold the truth of what happened to our daughter, and Kenya deserves that truth,” he stated, calling on detectives to piece together every detail of the timeline.

Alai further referenced reports indicating multiple entries and exits from the apartment unit during the early morning hours, raising questions over guest management and security oversight.

Demands to DCI

Alai urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to treat the case with urgency and transparency, recommending that it be handled initially as a suspected homicide until evidence suggests otherwise.

Among his demands were:

Full forensic analysis of all CCTV footage from Kaisa Garden Apartments and nearby areas

Interrogation of all individuals linked to the apartment booking and check-in records

Statement recording from the security guard, caretaker, and property management

Independent post-mortem and toxicology examination with family representation

Investigation into possible negligence or regulatory breaches by the apartment operators

He also questioned the regulation of short-stay rental units, arguing that such facilities must adhere to strict safety and security standards.

“A short-stay licence is not a licence to abandon duty of care,” he said, adding that residents have repeatedly raised concerns over the unchecked spread of Airbnb-style apartments in residential zones.

Call for accountability

Alai further demanded accountability from the management of Kaisa Garden Apartments, urging them to cooperate fully with investigators and clarify guest registration procedures and security protocols.

He warned that any attempts to interfere with evidence or investigations would attract legal consequences.

“To anyone who believes they can take a life in this ward and disappear into the night, know this: I will not rest until every person responsible answers before a court of law,” he said.
