Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has moved Kenyans with a deeply personal account of his adopted daughter Janet’s journey, culminating in her recent engagement.

In a heartfelt statement, Sonko recounted how Janet came into his life as a vulnerable child after losing her parents at a young age.

He revealed that she was rescued from Nzeluni Village in Mwingi, Kitui County, at just three years old, at a time when many had already lost hope in her future.

Sonko said his family embraced her fully, raising her as their own daughter and supporting her through every stage of life.

He described her as “a seed of greatness” who only needed love, care, and opportunity to thrive.

He traced her academic journey from Baraka Primary School to Arya Girls High School, before she joined Daystar University, where she graduated with a degree in Business Logistics and Procurement.

According to Sonko, Janet later secured a professional role at Diamond Trust Bank under its investment arm, marking a significant milestone in her career.

The former governor said witnessing her engagement to her fiancé Elvis was an emotional moment for the family, describing it as more than just a celebration.

He termed it a “testimony” of resilience, faith, and transformation.

Sonko emphasized that Janet’s story reflects a broader message about overcoming adversity, noting that her life journey proves that difficult beginnings do not determine one’s future.

He highlighted the role of faith and family support in shaping her path from loss and uncertainty to stability and success.

“As you leave our home to begin this new chapter, may your new home be filled with love, peace, and happiness,” Sonko said in part, offering his blessings to the couple.

The engagement has since attracted attention online, with many Kenyans praising the story as an inspiring example of compassion and long-term commitment to child welfare.

Others noted that it highlights the impact of adoption and mentorship in transforming lives.
