A new dimension has emerged in the controversy surrounding allegations linking Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo to goons, after journalist Ken Mijungu publicly cast doubt on the claims.

The allegations surfaced following the violent assault on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi in Kisumu, an incident that has triggered political tension and competing narratives between government and opposition figures.

In his reaction, Mijungu questioned both the logic and motive behind claims that Omollo could be linked to the attack.

He argued that it would be irrational for a senior government official to orchestrate violence in his own region while holding a powerful state position.

“How does PS Omollo benefit from meting violence to his own people in his own backyard? How brazen and insane would he be to preside over violence while holding that position?” Mijungu posed.

He further pointed to Omollo’s personal and professional background, suggesting it does not align with the accusations being made.

“History (family and profession) of the PS does not predispose him to such and in my capacity I don’t see the how and why. Someone explain to me,” he added.

Mijungu’s remarks come amid growing political pressure, with sections of opposition leaders alleging that individuals behind the Osotsi attack are linked to powerful state actors.

However, these claims remain unproven, with investigators yet to establish any direct connection between Omollo and the suspects arrested so far.

The government has dismissed the accusations as politically driven. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has maintained that the state has no role in the violence and instead accused political actors of sponsoring chaos and later shifting blame.

Meanwhile, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested several suspects in connection with the assault.

Authorities have indicated that those involved could face serious charges, including robbery with violence, as investigations continue.

The attack on Osotsi, captured on CCTV, has intensified scrutiny over the alleged use of organised gangs in political contests. It has also exposed deep mistrust between rival political factions, each accusing the other of fuelling violence.
