The Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) has revoked the accreditation of the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) and ordered the immediate closure of all its campuses across the country, citing violations of training regulations and operating without legal mandate.

In a public notice issued on Monday, April 20, TVETA stated that KIM had been offering and awarding academic and professional programmes without proper accreditation, contrary to provisions of the TVET Act, Cap 210A.

The authority said the institution was only accredited to offer programmes assessed and certified by TVET-CDACC but had gone beyond its approved scope.

According to TVETA, investigations established that KIM had continued to offer unapproved programmes and award academic qualifications in violation of Section 17(3) of the TVET Act.

The regulator also accused the institution of engaging trainers without valid training licences, contrary to Section 23(1) of the same law.

“The public is hereby notified that KIM does not have the legal mandate to award qualifications,” the notice read in part, adding that any certificates, diplomas or other qualifications issued after 2018 will not be recognized for employment, further education or professional advancement.

The authority further confirmed that, in line with Sections 36 and 37 of the TVET Act, the earlier accreditation granted to KIM and all its campuses had been revoked with immediate effect. Consequently, all campuses have been ordered closed.

TVETA has urged members of the public to exercise caution when enrolling in institutions and to always verify accreditation status before joining any training programme.

It warned that failure to do so exposes learners to unrecognized qualifications.

The regulator reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the integrity and quality of technical and vocational training in Kenya, saying it will continue taking action against institutions operating outside the legal framework.
