Former Makueni Governor Prof. Kivutha Kibwana has outlined the key political groupings shaping up in Kenya as the nation approaches the 2027 general elections.

His assessment highlights a complex landscape of alliances, reflecting both established political heavyweights and new emerging coalitions.

In a statement, Prof. Kibwana identified four principal formations.

He first mentioned the “Singapore Alliance”, led by President William Ruto and his deputy Kithure Kindiki, alongside veteran politician Oburu Oginga.

This bloc, he noted, represents the continuity of the current administration’s agenda and is expected to consolidate support from its existing base.

The second grouping, described as the “United Opposition”, combines several opposition figures, including Kalonzo Musyoka  and Rigathi Gachagua.

Prof. Kibwana said this alliance seeks to create a formidable counterbalance to the ruling coalition, leveraging both historical political networks and grassroots support.

A third formation, which he called “Linda Mwananchi”, brings together leaders like Edwin Sifuna, James Orengo, and Babu Owino.

According to Kibwana, this alliance is likely to appeal to reform-minded voters who are dissatisfied with both the government and the traditional opposition, emphasizing citizen-centric policies and transparency.

Finally, Prof. Kibwana pointed to the “People’s Opposition Alliance”, an eclectic coalition including Boniface Mwangi, Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah, Miguna Miguna, David Maraga, Kigame, and Oyoo.

He described this grouping as a politically diverse entity aiming to attract voters across different regions and demographics, including younger and urban electorates.

He also mentioned the GENZ fraternity as an emerging political voice representing youth interests, signaling the growing influence of younger voters in shaping national politics.

Prof. Kibwana’s analysis reflects a rapidly evolving political environment, where traditional loyalties are being tested and new alliances are emerging in anticipation of the 2027 vote.

With multiple coalitions positioning themselves ahead of the elections, Kenya’s political future appears increasingly dynamic, with alliances likely to shift as parties and leaders negotiate, consolidate support, and attempt to appeal to an electorate eager for change.

This early mapping by Prof. Kibwana offers a framework for understanding the likely battles and collaborations that could define the next general election cycle.
