ODM deputy party leader and Mombasa governor Abdulswamad Nassir has called on party members to remain united and transparent, as the party grapples with internal divisions following the recent sacking and reinstatement of Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna as secretary general.
Speaking to supporters in Garashi, Magarini, Kilifi, during his first visit after the ODM party secured a decisive by-election victory, Nassir emphasized that the party’s identity is rooted in collective action and open politics. To Continue Reading, ...Click Here
“Our party is ODM. Our Leader is Dr. Oburu Odinga. We speak with clarity because our journey has never been ambiguous,” Nassir said.
He noted that while some members have chosen “different roads” — pursuing personal ambitions or forming separate parties — the ODM he represents remains committed to shared struggle and collective decision-making.
Nassir highlighted that ODM’s strength lies in its transparency and its ability to mobilize supporters around a common purpose.
“We do not negotiate in shadows or cloak strategy in secrecy. When we engage, we do so openly, with the full knowledge of our members and supporters,” he added.
The governor, who is a vocal advocate for a broad-based government, reiterated the need for ODM to enter into strategic pre-election coalitions.
His remarks are widely seen as an endorsement of closer alignment with UDA ahead of the 2027 general elections, a move aimed at consolidating political influence and presenting a united front.
During the Kilifi rally, Nassir also encouraged members to focus on grassroots organization and constituency engagement, pointing to his own by-election win as proof that ODM’s relevance depends on maintaining a strong connection with voters.
As the party navigates the turbulent path to 2027, Nassir’s message underscores a clear line: ODM must prioritize collective strategy over personal ambition, embrace transparency, and explore partnerships that enhance its negotiating power.
