Keshie wa Stano, a Kenyan lady currently working in Saudi Arabia as a house help, has shared a heartfelt reflection on how living abroad has deepened her love for Kenya.
In a candid post, Keshie revealed that the experience was eye-opening in ways she never anticipated.
“Coming to Saudi has taught me many things, but this surprised me. I never thought I’d love our Kenya this much,” she said, chuckling.
While she always identified as a proud Kenyan, it was only through interacting with people from different countries that she realized the depth of her attachment to home. To Continue Reading, ...Click Here
She explained that hearing someone, whether an Arab or any other nationality, mention Kenya evokes a special feeling.
“You feel something in your heart, it’s like Kenya itself is a part of you, not just a country,” Keshie said.
She noted that living abroad also shifts the way one views the nation’s successes and failures.
“Even the good things we praise, and the bad things, we tend to dismiss, like ‘that’s not really our Kenya,’” she joked.
Keshie shared lighthearted stories about the joy of meeting fellow Kenyans overseas. Spotting someone wearing a bracelet with the Kenyan flag, for instance, can spark excitement and playful banter.
“You find yourself saying, ‘mtkoii kuja hapa wacha ujinga,’ and the other person responds with the same happiness. It’s funny, but it makes you feel connected,” she recounted.
She also emphasized the ease of bonding with fellow Kenyans abroad, noting that people rarely ask about her ethnic background.
“As long as you’re Kenyan, it’s pure joy. Kenya is in my blood,” Keshie concluded, highlighting how her time abroad has strengthened her pride and sense of belonging.
