Political tensions within the opposition continue to intensify as the emerging Linda Mwananchi movement attracts a growing number of youthful politicians opposed to the country’s evolving power-sharing arrangements.
The group is reportedly reorganising politically and could alter the balance of influence within the broad-based government.
According to Taifa Jumapili, a bloc of young legislators linked to the movement is led by Nairobi Senator and Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Edwin Sifuna.
Others mentioned include Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi, Siaya Governor James Orengo, and Embakasi South MP Julius Mawathe.
Additional figures associated with the movement are Wundanyi MP Danson Mwashako, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, Jubilee Executive Director Pauline Njoroge, Nyamira Senator Erick Mogeni, Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, Vihiga Senator Geoffrey Osotsi, and Bomachoge Borabu MP Obadiah Barongo.
The report states that internal wrangles within ODM, triggered by contested party decisions, gave rise to the Linda Mwananchi movement, which is now expanding into a broader political platform.
What began as grievances over party leadership has evolved into a campaign uniting self-declared ODM rebels and young leaders from other parties.
Political analysts say the group’s emergence could present a challenge to leaders of the broad-based government led by President William Ruto alongside Oburu Oginga.
As the movement grows, it may reshape opposition politics and influence the trajectory of political cooperation ahead of future elections.
