Nairobi Senator and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has moved to calm coalition politics by firmly reaffirming ODM’s continued membership in the Azimio la Umoja–One Kenya coalition following recent leadership changes.
Speaking after Azimio unveiled a new leadership lineup, Sifuna said ODM remains committed to the coalition and will support the newly appointed office holders as long as the party remains within Azimio.
He congratulated the incoming team, saying they can count on ODM’s cooperation in advancing the coalition’s political agenda.
“ODM is still a member of the Azimio coalition. I want to congratulate the new office holders and wish them the best; they can count on ODM for as long as we remain members of the coalition,” Sifuna said.
His remarks come amid a significant reorganisation within Azimio, which saw Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka assume the role of coalition party leader.
The changes were endorsed by Azimio’s top decision-making organs in a meeting chaired by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, signalling a strategic reset as the opposition alliance looks ahead to the 2027 General Election.
The shake-up also included the replacement of Junet Mohamed as Secretary General, with Suba MP Caroli Omondi taking over the position.
In addition, Philip Kisia was appointed Executive Director, filling a role left vacant following the exit of Raphael Tuju.
The coalition has since formally notified the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties of the changes.
Sifuna’s statement appeared aimed at dispelling speculation about possible fractures within Azimio, particularly regarding ODM’s position after the reorganisation.
ODM is the coalition’s largest constituent party and a key pillar of its parliamentary and grassroots strength.
