Kileleshwa Ward MCA Robert Alai has launched a sharp public attack on ODM Secretary‑General Edwin Sifuna, accusing party leadership of undermining both former presidential campaigns and the current strength of the Orange Democratic Movement.
Alai’s criticism — posted on X — comes hours after Sifuna’s high‑profile Tuesday interview on Citizen TV, during which the ODM SG addressed internal party disputes, alleged misuse of youth empowerment funds by the UDA, and the slow progress on the government’s 10‑Point Agenda.
In his post, Alai alleged that ODM leaders “sabotaged Baba Raila Odinga’s 2022 State House quest through inaction and/or indecisiveness.”
He further claimed that the party is now being damaged from within by what he described as a “rogue, incompetent, but mouthy individual imposter in the position of SG.”
“Sifuna is weakening the party,” Alai wrote, arguing that with Sifuna in ODM’s leadership, the party will be forced to negotiate with UDA “from a point of weakness.”
The MCA’s remarks underscore growing frustrations among some party loyalists who view recent public disputes and mixed messaging as symptomatic of deeper leadership challenges.
In Tuesday’s interview, Sifuna distanced himself from recent “Linda Ground” rallies, stating that funds for those events were not approved by the party and did not come from official ODM accounts.
He also criticised the implementation committee for the National Dialogue Committee’s 10‑Point Agenda for making “absolutely zero” progress and warned the group has a 30‑day deadline to deliver results.
The ODM SG also raised concerns about the World Bank‑funded NYOTA youth programme, alleging it has been redirected toward UDA political activity instead of youth empowerment.
Alai’s remarks signal a widening rift within ODM ranks, highlighting tensions between grassroots elements and party leadership over strategy, unity and political direction ahead of the 2027 elections.
