Politician and gospel singer Reuben Kigame has criticized the government’s current economic agenda, warning that Kenya risks undermining long-term development without proper planning and explanation.

In a statement shared on X, Kigame acknowledged past efforts by former President Mwai Kibaki, who, together with economic experts, established a roadmap for national growth under the Vision 2030 framework.

“Together with several economic experts, Kibaki put Kenya on a clear economic growth path called Vision 2030,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of continuity in national economic planning.

Kigame also referenced subsequent initiatives under Presidents Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto, including the Big Four Agenda, which aimed to boost manufacturing, affordable housing, universal healthcare, and food security.

Despite these efforts, he expressed concern over the rising public debt, which now exceeds Sh12 trillion.

“The deputy president of that regime is forcing the country to spend Sh5 trillion on romanticized economic projects,” Kigame said, criticizing what he described as ambitious yet unclear initiatives.

He argued that Kenya cannot abandon Vision 2030 without providing citizens with detailed explanations and a coherent alternative.

Kigame’s remarks highlight growing debate over the sustainability of Kenya’s economic policies, especially in the context of ballooning public debt and ongoing pressure to deliver immediate development outcomes.

He urged policymakers to respect the foundation laid by previous administrations while carefully evaluating new initiatives to avoid jeopardizing Kenya’s economic future.
