The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has successfully recovered two stolen Isuzu lorries in Mombasa following a coordinated investigation by detectives from the Operation Support Unit (OSU).
The vehicles, an Isuzu FVZ (KDQ 845T) and an Isuzu FRR (KDL 078W), were reported stolen in a bold heist in Gatanga on August 16, 2025. According to the DCI, the theft prompted a detailed probe that relied heavily on intelligence gathering and surveillance.
Five suspects—Peter Njuguna Gitau, Mark Kinyua, Erick Chege, David Kigo, and Joseph Ndung’u Waweru—were arrested in connection with the case. Interrogations revealed that the stolen lorries had been transported to Makupa in Mombasa County.
To evade detection, the perpetrators had fitted the vehicles with counterfeit registration plates: the Isuzu FVZ bore KDV 449C, while the Isuzu FRR carried KCA 505D.
The DCI confirmed that both vehicles have now been recovered and are securely held at DCI Gatanga.
Plans are underway to return the lorries to their rightful owners, a move described by officials as a step toward restoring justice and public confidence.
In a statement, the DCI emphasized the importance of intelligence-led operations in tackling vehicle theft and warned that similar crimes would be met with swift law enforcement action.
The suspects remain in custody, undergoing processing pending formal arraignment.
Authorities have urged members of the public to report suspicious activity to help prevent organized thefts and assist in the recovery of stolen property.
This successful recovery shows the DCI’s commitment to combating organized crime and protecting citizens’ property across the country.
