Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has penned a heartfelt tribute to outgoing Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo, praising her unwavering courage, integrity, and commitment to justice during a challenging tenure.
In his statement on X, Salasya described Odhiambo as a leader whose “courage and honour is on another level,” highlighting her steadfastness in defending the vulnerable despite immense pressure and intimidation.
He contrasted her leadership with what he described as petty rivalries in public discourse, noting that Odhiambo’s work transcended personal gain and political theatrics.
Odhiambo’s tenure was marked by visible and impactful leadership.
According to Salasya, she gave voice to those who had none and ensured that justice was not just a promise but a lived reality for many.
Her efforts, he said, were especially significant during the tragic events of June 25, when protests against the Finance Bill 2024 were met with excessive force by the government.
Young Kenyans taking to the streets were reportedly abducted, shot, and in some cases, killed.
Amid this turmoil, Odhiambo stood firm in defense of constitutional rights and human dignity, refusing to be intimidated by the powers that be.
Salasya also acknowledged Odhiambo’s brief involvement in a government-formed task force intended to determine compensation for victims of the June 25 crackdown.
Though compensation has yet to materialize, Odhiambo eventually stepped aside, a move Salasya interpreted as preserving her moral authority and integrity rather than legitimizing a flawed process.
As she exits office, Salasya expressed gratitude and respect for Odhiambo’s leadership, underscoring the bar she has set for the incoming LSK team led by SC Charles Kanjama.
He urged the new leadership to build on her legacy by serving with courage, dignity, and unwavering integrity, noting that the LSK remains a critical institution in Kenya’s democratic journey.
