In a decisive move, Law Society of Kenya (LSK) presidential aspirant Mwaura Kabata has severed all connections with fellow lawyer Patrick Wandare following allegations of sexual assault.

Kabata announced the decision in a statement shared on X on Monday evening, emphasizing his commitment to integrity and zero tolerance for sexual harassment.

According to Kabata, Wandare had initially supported one of his rivals before publicly backing Kabata’s candidacy in January 2026.

Despite this, Kabata clarified that Wandare was never formally engaged as a representative or agent of his campaign, and his involvement was limited solely to voluntary support.

“The grave allegations against Mr. Wandare are shocking, and such conduct is inconsistent with my personal values and the principles of my candidacy,” Kabata stated.

“I have zero tolerance for all perpetrators and enablers of sexual harassment, and do not intend to advance any relationship with individuals who demonstrate contempt for the ideals of mutual respect, dignity, and freedom from all forms of gender-based violence including sexual harassment.”

Kabata’s statement comes amid growing scrutiny over professional conduct within Kenya’s legal fraternity.

By publicly distancing himself from Wandare, Kabata signals a firm stance against gender-based violence and misconduct among lawyers, pledging support to victims.

He further expressed his sympathies to all persons who may have suffered as a result of Wandare’s alleged actions, urging them to pursue justice.

“I endorse any action they may take to seek justice for the pain they have suffered,” he added.

The move is expected to reinforce Kabata’s image as a candidate committed to ethical leadership, particularly at a time when voters and members of the LSK are increasingly attentive to the character and conduct of aspirants seeking the society’s top position.

While Wandare’s alleged misconduct has yet to be tested in court, Kabata’s swift response reflects a broader push within professional bodies to address sexual harassment and uphold standards of accountability.

The LSK presidential race, already competitive, now faces heightened public attention on issues of ethics, integrity, and the treatment of vulnerable individuals within the legal community.
