Ghetto President Gaucho, real name Calvinse Okoth, has publicly addressed his long-standing relationship with the Odinga family after his birthday celebrations hosted by Mama Ida Odinga sparked online debate.

In a detailed social media post, Gaucho thanked supporters who sent him birthday wishes, describing the day as emotional and meaningful.

He revealed that the celebration, hosted by Raila Odinga’s widow and former UN diplomat Ida Odinga, marked his first birthday without “Baba,” a reference to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

“Today is my first birthday without Baba,” Gaucho wrote, thanking Mama Ida for the cake and warm wishes. The message drew attention online, with some users questioning his closeness to the Odinga family.

Gaucho responded firmly, stating that his relationship with the family dates back to 2013.

He explained that Rosemary Odinga introduced him to the family and appointed him chair of the youth volunteer team in Starehe Constituency during Raila Odinga’s 2013 presidential campaign.

“We have walked the journey together through ups and downs in this murky political terrain,” he said, adding that Raila and Ida Odinga had always treated him like a son, while Rosemary, Raila Jr and Winnie Odinga regarded him as a sibling.

The outspoken activist condemned what he termed as “online riffraffs” using his photos to create content for clout, accusing unnamed politicians of sponsoring misleading graphics to damage Mama Ida’s reputation.

Gaucho praised Ida Odinga as a respected leader locally and internationally, comparing her influence to that of the late South African icon Winnie Mandela.

He warned that any attempts to soil her name for content creation or political propaganda would not be tolerated.

“If the perpetrators find themselves before court to explain and pay for reputational damages, they should not blame me,” he said.

According to Gaucho, loyalty and straightforwardness are the only reasons behind his close ties with the Odinga family. He concluded by thanking Kenyans for their support and asking critics to respect the family’s legacy.

His remarks have reignited debate online, highlighting the enduring political and personal networks surrounding the Odinga family years after Raila Odinga’s death.
