For nearly two years, 29-year-old Mercy Atieno lived in quiet fear. What began as occasional bad dreams gradually evolved into intense, recurring nightmares that left her physically shaken and emotionally drained.
She would wake up gasping for air, convinced someone was standing beside her bed. Some mornings, she noticed unexplained bruises on her arms and legs, despite living alone and locking her doors each night.
At first, Mercy dismissed the episodes as stress-related. She worked long hours in a demanding corporate job in Nairobi and assumed exhaustion was affecting her sleep.
However, the dreams became more vivid and disturbing. In them, she felt chased, restrained, or called by unfamiliar voices. The experiences began affecting her concentration at work and strained her social life.
Concerned friends encouraged her to seek medical help. Mercy underwent several health check-ups and later attended counseling sessions. Doctors ruled out physical illness, while therapy helped her manage anxiety but did not stop the nightmares.
The unexplained bruises and persistent sensation of a “presence” in her room intensified her distress.
As months passed, Mercy became increasingly withdrawn. She avoided sleeping with the lights off and often called relatives late at night for reassurance.
Family members suggested that the situation might require spiritual intervention, especially given the recurring and unusual nature of the experiences.
Reluctantly but desperate for relief, Mercy contacted Dr Bokko, a spiritual and traditional healer known for assisting individuals facing complex personal challenges.
During the consultation, she described the nightmares, the unexplained marks on her body, and the emotional toll the experiences had taken.
After a spiritual assessment, she was advised to undergo cleansing and prayer sessions aimed at addressing what was described as negative spiritual influences.
The process included ritual practices meant to restore protection and emotional balance. She was also guided to adopt daily affirmations and protective routines to strengthen her sense of security.
According to Mercy, the sessions brought an immediate sense of calm she had not felt in months.
Within weeks, the intensity of the nightmares reportedly reduced. She began sleeping for longer uninterrupted hours and noticed that the unexplained bruises stopped appearing.
Her confidence slowly returned, and she resumed social activities she had previously abandoned.
Mercy says the combination of spiritual guidance and emotional support helped her regain control of her life. She continues to practice some of the recommended routines while also maintaining occasional counseling sessions to support her mental wellbeing.
Today, she reflects on the ordeal as one of the most challenging periods of her life. While she acknowledges that fear once dominated her nights, she now describes her home as peaceful and her mind as stable.
For Mercy, seeking help marked a turning point — transforming prolonged distress into a journey toward restoration, clarity, and renewed confidence. CONTINUE READING
