Nandi Senator Kiprotich Cherargei has taken aim at former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Nelson Havi following his high-profile meeting with Chief Justice Martha Koome on Tuesday.

Cherargei’s comments, posted on X, cast doubt on Havi’s credibility, highlighting what he described as a sudden shift in the lawyer’s approach to institutions he once criticised.

“In 2020, Nelson Havi, then LSK president, after bashing Parliament, came only to take tea at the Parliament restaurant,” Cherargei wrote.

“In 2026, after being the fiercest critic of the Supreme Court and Chief Justice Koome’s leadership, he finally went to the Supreme Court buildings… again to take tea. His only problem is tea maybe as a Luhya!”

Havi’s meeting was attended by LSK president Faith Odhiambo and senior counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi, a long-time vocal critic of the Judiciary, particularly the Supreme Court.

Abdullahi had previously been banned for two years from appearing with his law firm in the Supreme Court, a ban that was lifted in January 2026. The session was mediated by Senior Counsel Philip Murgor.

Havi described the engagement as a turning point, aimed at mending differences and tackling systemic challenges in the Judiciary.

“Through the mediation of Chairman Philip Murgor SC, we settled our differences and agreed to work together with CJ Martha Koome in fighting corruption and impunity in the Judiciary,” Havi posted on social media.

“Expect significant changes and progress in the coming days. It will not be business as usual for corrupt and incompetent judges.”

The encounter has triggered mixed reactions online. Critics question Havi’s newfound collaboration with the Supreme Court, pointing to his earlier scathing critiques.

Others see the move as a pragmatic step toward reform, potentially signaling more accountability within Kenya’s Judiciary.
