Kenyan security agencies on Tuesday night foiled a major terror plot in Kajiado, arresting 13 suspects and seizing a cache of deadly weapons and medical supplies, Daily Nation reports.
The raid followed days of meticulous surveillance targeting the group suspected of planning an attack in Nairobi.
Police recovered five AK-47 assault rifles, a Makarov pistol with 24 rounds, 20 magazines loaded with ammunition, and six hand grenades intended for close-range attacks.
Authorities also impounded medical supplies, including paracetamol-based Tekomol for fever and pain, Nexstep 40mg for acid reduction, Vitamin K3 injections to aid blood clotting, Powermole diclofenac for pain relief, three elastic bandages, and four disposable syringes.
These items, officials say, were likely meant to support the suspects in executing and surviving their planned operation.
Security analysts note that the Kajiado operation underscores ongoing threats from small, clandestine terror cells in urban areas.
Police have urged the public to remain alert and report suspicious activities, emphasizing that intelligence-led interventions remain crucial to preventing mass-casualty attacks.
Kenya has maintained heightened security since the DusitD2 attack, with enhanced surveillance in major towns and close monitoring of known terror hotspots.
Officials reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that gatherings and religious observances proceed without incident.
The arrested suspects are currently undergoing interrogation, while investigations continue to trace any further accomplices and neutralize potential threats.
