Fresh details have emerged in the murder of Dr Victoria Mutiso after journalist Moses Dola publicly linked the prime suspect, police officer Elijah Kimoi, to a past criminal case and shared private chats between them.
Dola’s remarks came hours after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), through Director Mohammed Amin, named Kimoi as the officer who allegedly pulled the trigger in the fatal shooting of Dr Mutiso.
The revelation has intensified scrutiny over the suspect’s background and conduct within the police service.
In a detailed social media statement, Dola said he was stunned to recognise Kimoi as someone he had previously encountered during a robbery with violence case in 2011.
According to the journalist, the two met while in custody at Industrial Area Prison, where Kimoi was an accused person before being acquitted alongside co-accused individuals.
“When Riggy G mentioned that two Kalenjin officers were involved… I had no idea it could be someone I know,” Dola wrote.
“Then DCI Director Mohammed Amin revealed the names and the face became all too familiar.”
Dola questioned how an individual once cleared of a serious offence could later be implicated in an even graver crime, suggesting systemic lapses in vetting and accountability within the police service.
“What baffles me is how one can stay in prison as an accused person, be cleared… and still go back to commit even more serious crimes,” he stated.
Alongside his remarks, Dola shared screenshots of what he described as their last conversations, dated between 2015 and June this year.
The chats show casual exchanges, including discussions about a court case, references to “defence,” and later communication in June where Kimoi allegedly responded to a request involving a money transaction.
In one exchange, Kimoi reportedly told Dola, “tuko defence ii June,” suggesting he was preparing for a legal defence at the time.
In a later conversation, Dola shared phone numbers and referenced a financial request, to which Kimoi allegedly replied, “Copied sir.”
While the authenticity of the chats has not been independently verified, they have added a personal dimension to a case already under intense public scrutiny.

Dola also issued a direct emotional appeal to the suspect, questioning the motive behind the alleged killing.
“Kimoi nauliza tu, why did you have to pull the trigger? A family is weeping and you have plunged your own family into problems,” he wrote.
Investigators have linked Kimoi to a broader network allegedly involved in the killing, with DCI stating that forensic evidence, including ballistic analysis, places him at the centre of the shooting.
The murder of Dr Mutiso continues to draw national attention, with growing calls for accountability within the police service and a thorough review of how officers with past criminal links are reintegrated into duty.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing, with more arrests and disclosures expected as the case unfolds.
