Political strategist Pauline Njoroge has dismissed claims that Winnie Odinga’s growing political profile is being bankrolled by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, following a high-energy rally held at Kamukunji grounds in Kibra on Sunday.

In a strongly worded social media statement, Njorge said the Kibra rally was entirely organic and driven by public enthusiasm rather than financial muscle or political sponsorship.

She contrasted the event with earlier rallies that were heavily branded and extensively mobilised, arguing that despite their resources, they failed to match the numbers, energy, and authenticity witnessed in Kibra.

Njoroge questioned the motive behind claims linking Winnie to Uhuru, asking what exactly she would be “sponsored” for.

She said attempts to politicise her personal support for Winnie were misguided, adding that her backing was rooted in long-standing professional and personal interactions rather than shifting political alliances.

Offering rare insight into Winnie Odinga’s political grounding, Njorge recalled working closely with her during Raila Odinga’s African Union Commission campaign.

She described Winnie as intellectually curious, bold, and deeply engaged in discussions on governance, regional politics, and Africa’s post-independence trajectories.

According to Njoroge, it was during these interactions that she recognised Winnie’s depth and her close intellectual alignment with her father.

Njorge also highlighted Winnie’s commitment to justice and loyalty to colleagues, recalling moments when Winnie stood up for her against internal sidelining attempts.

She said Winnie consistently defended those she believed in, even at personal or political cost.

Looking ahead, Njoroge framed Winnie as part of a new generation shaping the future of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM)

She expressed confidence that Winnie would not remain silent if young leaders within the party were marginalised, insisting she would actively defend both the party’s values and Raila Odinga’s political legacy.

Njoroge concluded by dismissing perceptions of Winnie as a passive political actor, describing her instead as a firm, determined leader whose influence within Kenya’s political landscape is only beginning to take shape.
